Born to Kanna Rangaiah & Kanna Masthanamma, Kanna Lakshmi Narayana was the youngest in the family. Hailing from a modest background, Kanna Lakshmi Narayana has always been very sensitive to the needs of common man and understood the ebb & flow of a commoner's life. Whether helping the needy and downtrodden in his village or acting as the Industry Minister in Rosaiah's cabinet, Kanna Lakshmi Narayana has always been at the forefront of social service.
A successful weightlifter, Kanna Lakshmi Narayana was attracted to politics from a very young age. He realized that if he has to make real difference to the life of a common man then he has to join politics and deliver.
He knew as an elected representative of people he will have more chance and power to make substantial contribution towards poverty alleviation and bring a qualitative change in the lives of those whom he has seen suffering from close quarters. He was fully aware how majority of people eke out their living. All this suffering never allowed him to sleep peacefully. In those bylanes of Guntur, a sensitive politician was born and who with time brought substantial development to his constituency Pedakurapadu, Guntur and became a role model to others in the public service.He dreamt initially to be a Sub-Inspector in the Police department but destiny wanted him to have more power to work towards the betterment of the society at all levels. Hailing from a political family of Guntur, Kanna Lakshmi Narayana has this burning desire, deep passion and unflinching faith in the human endeavour which has enabled him to script a highly successful political career of his own, now lasting about 40 years. He still feels he has a lot to contribute and counts every single day as important in his attempt to bring a difference.Getting on his bicycle during his junior college days, Kanna Lakshmi Narayana, a B Com graduate, used to invite all to JOIN NSUI by writing on the walls and this was his way of getting initiated into politics- entering a profession without being forced.
He just felt it to be his calling and heeded the voice of his heart. A much focused man with a clean vision, Kanna Lakshmi Narayana knew even in those early days that only honesty of effort, passion and a soft heart will bring success in his chosen field. Even today when he is holding a very important portfolio of Minister for Industries he has not neglected the people of his constituency or the people of Andhra Pradesh. A man of the soil, Kanna Lakshmi Narayana has not forgotten his roots and the foundation of his successful political career.
Kanna Lakshminarayana is a man of word and commitment never fears to fight for justice and stand up for the truth. In his early political career, he was stabbed when he refused to compromise on his principles. A gold medalist in shooting, Kanna Lakshmi Narayana has brought the virtues of a sportsman- discipline, dedication, direction and desire to win- to the world of politics and social development.
This 52-year-old veteran Congress leader has won the just-concluded election to the State Assembly for the fifth term from Guntur (West) Assembly constituency; he won from Pedakurapadu, the biggest constituency in Andhra Pradesh, for four straight terms, from 1989 to 2004, including the 1994 Assembly elections when only 26 Congressmen won the election. Late NT Rama Rao took personal interest in defeating him in the 1994 Assembly elections but Kanna Lakshmi Narayana still prevailed and it was only possible because he has served the people of his constituency with honesty and dedication.
Kanna Lakshmi Narayana is currently the Minister of Major Industries, Food Processing, Commerce & Export Promotion in the cabinet of Hon'ble Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, having served with distinction as Transport Minister in the previous Cabinet of late Hon'ble CM Dr. Y. S. Rajashekhar Reddy.
His long political career is dotted with achievements and Kanna Lakshmi Narayana intends to keep serving the people with distinction. As an Industries Minister he has initiated major development activities to raise the standard of living of people in all the regions of Andhra Pradesh.
