A successful weightlifter, Kanna Lakshmi Narayana was attracted to politics from a very young age. He realized that if he has to make real difference to the life of a common man then he has to join politics and deliver. Kanna Lakshmi Narayana won the election to the State Assembly for the fifth term from Guntur (West) Assembly constituency in 2009. He won from Pedakurapadu,the biggest constituency in Andhra Pradesh, for four straight terms, from 1989 to 2004.
